Whilst not everyone can be a qualified physical or mental health professional, almost everyone has been, or knows someone who has been, impacted by a physical or mental health problem in their lives. Aimed at identifying and utilising team members who are resilient and passionate about the wellbeing of others, your wellness champions are critical to the success of the program.
Wellness champions help create a sustainable wellness culture. Therefore, it is vital to actively appoint individuals within your organisation to drive the program’s success and guide workers to the appropriate support services.
Champions will be provided with training, resources, and ongoing support from the wellness team. Ideally, your champions will volunteer for the position rather than be assigned to the role.
Sharing valuable insights into mental health and wellbeing to educate and engage employees in open discussions.
Ensuring new employees have access to important resources that promote overall wellness from the start of their journey.
Creating safe spaces where individuals feel comfortable sharing their personal experiences with mental health, helping to reduce stigma and normalise discussions around mental ill-health.
Actively supporting initiatives such as R U OK? Day, Movember, and Mental Health Week to reinforce the importance of checking in on colleagues and prioritising wellbeing.
Listening to employees who may be struggling and directing them to appropriate support services, both within the company and through external professional resources.
Motivating employees to engage in the physical health and wellbeing components of the Strong Minds, Strong Mines program, recognising the strong connection between mental and physical health.
